Bridge Opens Brunson Liberty House in Brighton
Brighton, MA–Bridge Over Troubled Waters joined with Liberty Mutual Insurance today to celebrate the official opening of Brunson Liberty House.
With an estimated 11,000 youth and young adults experiencing homelessness in the Boston-area each year, the nine-bedroom co-op style apartment in Brighton offers a safe next step for young adults experiencing homelessness who have graduated from Bridge’s Transitional Living Program, a 24-hour supportive program to help youth learn the life skills needed to be successful in independent housing. The property was purchased this year with a $1.3 million gift from Liberty Mutual Insurance and is managed and operated by Bridge Over Troubled Waters.
“We are thrilled to have the ability to provide services to homeless, runaway, and at-risk youth thanks to the generous gift from our longstanding partner Liberty Mutual Insurance,” said Bridge Over Troubled Waters President & CEO Elisabeth Jackson. “Brunson Liberty House will provide independent living for youth experiencing homelessness, significantly expanding Bridge’s capacity to help youth transition out of our Transitional Living Program and take the next steps towards becoming fully independent young adults.”
Residents of the Transitional Living Program maintain employment, continue their education, meet weekly with a Bridge counselor, and work with case managers on reaching their goals, before moving into Brunson Liberty House.
Through its philanthropic giving, Liberty Mutual helps underserved people and communities establish a sense of security and build resiliency. Since 2018, Liberty Mutual has committed more than $28 million in grants to address youth homelessness, a signature program within the company’s giving strategy. These contributions have been directed to organizations that have enabled more than 6,600 young people to exit to stable housing and nearly 14,300 young people find transitional homes.
“Safe and secure housing coupled with developmentally appropriate support services are essential for ensuring youth can reach their full potential,” said Melissa MacDonnell, President of Liberty Mutual Foundation, Vice President of Community Investments at Liberty Mutual. “The first Liberty House model is already having a profound effect on supporting youth in building a foundation for their future. We are honored to once again support Bridge Over Troubled Waters in moving this vital work forward.”
